Lyon Win Appeal, Avoid Relegation to Ligue 2

Olympique Lyonnais have won their appeal against administrative relegation and will remain in Ligue 1 for the 2025/26 season. The DNCG, France’s financial watchdog, reversed its initial ruling after the club presented a revised financial plan addressing its debt and long-term sustainability.

The seven-time French champions had faced demotion due to financial irregularities, including a €175 million debt. However, Lyon’s new leadership under Michele Kang convinced the commission with significant equity injections and cost-control reforms.

Lyon’s successful appeal also secures their UEFA Europa League spot, sparking concerns for Crystal Palace, whose European qualification is now at risk due to UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules involving both clubs.
