The management of Lagos State University (LASU) has directed workers who have been on strike for over one week to resume duties on Monday, August 11, 2025. The directive follows the intervention of the Lagos State Government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Tolani Akibu, who confirmed that all the demands of the striking staff have been met.
According to a statement signed by LASU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the workers had downed tools for eight days to press for improved welfare packages, prompt payment of allowances, and better working conditions. She noted that the resolution was reached after a series of meetings between the university management, representatives of the Lagos State Government, and leaders of the university’s staff unions.
Students and stakeholders have welcomed the development, expressing relief that academic activities will soon resume. Many urged both the management and union leaders to maintain open communication channels to prevent further disruptions to the institution’s academic calendar.
