Tayo Popoola, General Coordinator, Lagos Women Run, on Thursday, said over 400 women had registered for the physical run from different countries, while several others registered for the virtual run.
The general coordinator told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the virtual event was a result of the pandemic to ensure that women were not denied the opportunity to run.
“We are ready for another edition of the Lagos women run and usually the women are ready.
“It is a year of preparation and for us, we are very ready. This is the biggest women fitness in Africa we can think of and it has been on for five years now,” she said.
She noted that the rules of COVID-19 would be strictly adhered to during the event.
Popoola added that women participating in the run from other countries would have to undergo the COVID-19 test.
“As much as the pandemic is going, we still need to strictly adhere to the rules.
“For women coming in from other countries, we will ensure they go through the normal COVID-19 process to ensure that they are safe.
“They will have to be quarantined for seven days before participating in the race.
“Women will be put in different cells. Cells mean that you don’t have many people coming together to run,” she said.
Popoola added that the elite run would involve the physical, while the virtual run would be for other women all over that had registered.
“The women involved will go through the normal route. The race will start off at the same time for those running physically and virtually,” she said.
