The Lagos State Police Command has announced a 12-hour restriction of movement across the state on Saturday, July 12, 2025, in view of the local government elections.
Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, made this known in a statement released on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.
According to the statement, the movement restriction will be enforced from 3:00 am to 3:00 pm, covering all roads and waterways within Lagos State. The restriction is part of extensive security arrangements to ensure a peaceful, safe, and credible election process.
“The Consultative Committee on Election Security in Lagos State, after due consideration of public safety and electoral integrity, has directed a total vehicular movement restriction across the state from 3am to 3pm,” the statement read.
No vehicular movement except for essential services like ambulances, fire trucks, and designated security vehicles.
Police escorts, sirens, covered number plates, and armed aides are banned from polling and collation centers.
Only accredited personnel including LASIEC officials, observers, journalists, and emergency workers will be allowed movement, and must display valid identification tags.
State-owned security outfits and quasi-security agencies are not permitted to participate in election security.
Any violators or untagged individuals found at polling venues will be arrested and prosecuted under the Electoral Act.
Commissioner Jimoh emphasized the need for all stakeholders to cooperate with law enforcement for a smooth electoral process, adding that security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) will be fully mobilized.
He assured residents that every measure is in place to protect voters, election officials, and materials throughout the period.
