A member of the Labour Party, Avotu Johnson, has said Julius Abure remains the National Chairman of the party in line with the LP constitution.
Johnson stated this during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, in reaction to the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to recognise Abure as chairman.
He accused INEC of misunderstanding its regulatory role, stressing that the Supreme Court had clearly ruled that leadership matters within a political party are the party’s internal affairs.
According to him, “the statutory members of the Labour Party — the Chairman and Secretary — are the only ones empowered to convene or conduct a convention,” adding that Abure’s position as chairman remains valid.
