The Kebbi State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Fakai Local Government Area, Muhammad Mahuta, after a committee report found him culpable of gross misconduct and negligence. The decision was reached during Wednesday’s plenary session following an investigation led by the House Special Committee chaired by Salihu Dangoje.
According to the committee’s findings, Mahuta was linked to an attempted sale of five electrical transformers, illegal allocation of government farmlands, and irregularities surrounding the rehabilitation of Mahuta Dam. Evidence also revealed that funds were transferred to accounts connected to the planned sale of the transformers, contradicting his initial claims that they had merely been sent for servicing.
The Assembly adopted recommendations for his six-month suspension, the immediate revival of the dam project, and the revocation of unlawfully allocated farmlands. Speaker Muhammad Usman announced that the suspension had taken immediate effect, with commendations issued to the NSCDC officer who uncovered the transformer incident.
