Detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has informed the Federal High Court in Abuja of his readiness to open his defence, marking a significant twist in his ongoing trial. Kanu, in a motion personally signed and filed on Tuesday, said he plans to call 23 witnesses, including prominent political and military figures such as former Defence Minister Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Kanu stated that he would personally testify, providing a sworn account to deny allegations and clarify the political motivations behind his actions. He also hinted at disengaging his legal team led by SAN Kanu Agabi, requesting 90 days to conclude his defence due to the number of witnesses.
Meanwhile, on the same day Kanu filed his motion, his lawyer Aloy Ejimakor and 12 others were remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre for participating in protests demanding his release. They face charges of conspiracy, disobedience of lawful order, and disturbance of public peace.
