Attorney General of Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi,SAN, on Friday said on Friday that the ministry will address five areas of the administration identified 8 Priorities areas.
He said that by virtue of ministry Justice mandate it would speaks to Priority 3 (Economic growth and Job creation)
Priority 5 to deal with “(Inclusivity; Drawing on all Skills Base); Priority 6 (Security); Priority 7 (Fairness and Rule of Law); and Priority 8 (Anti-Corruption Stance).”
The Ministry is also speaking to the eighth (8th) Priority “Focus Area of Government, which is Improved Governance for effective Service Delivery.”
Fagbemi disclosed this at one day retreat organized for the Ministry of Justice and its Agencies on Friday in Abuja that was attended by seasoned administrators ably led by Lady Hadiza Bala Usman.
He said on it part, the Ministry of Justice has encapsulated the Ministerial Deliverables as key priorities of the Goals in its Strategic Plan 2023-2027. This we believe will enhance the implementation of the assigned Sector Plan.
“The Sector Plan Cover the following areas: Measures to achieve speedy dispensation of Justice;
Robust engagement with the Judiciary, National Assembly and other Justice Sector Institutions;.Successful Prosecution of Terrorism and high-profile Corruption cases.
Others includes engagement with relevant MDAs and other Stakeholders on enhanced Salary and allowances for Federal Judicial Officers;
Coordination and Collaboration between relevant Organisations under the Proceeds of Crime Act (Recovery and Management) POCA;
Implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy; Development and deployment of a National Crime Data Base; Review of outdated Laws and Regulations.
Access to Justice on Human Rights protection; Compliance with Laws and Policies on public procurement to mitigate Contract failure and reduce FGN Judgment Debts.
Development of Legislation to promote economic inclusivity, diversification, job creation and revenue generation;
Deployment and operationalization of Electronic Content Management system (ECM);
Implementation of the Personnel Performance Management System; and
Initiation and implementation of quarterly citizens and stakeholder engagement sessions to communicate Government activities and serve as feedback mechanism.
He said that the Justice sector is pivotal to the attainment of the objectives of other sectors, as well as attaining the universal role of the law as a veritable enabler for development.
The Justice Sector is also a key catalyst or stimulator for economic growth, investments drive, and revenue generation, among others. Traditionally, the sector renders non-kinetic support to the security/defence architecture of the country,” he stated..
He expressed “an urgent need to reposition the Justice sector for optimal performance and enhanced productivity, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. In order to facilitate delivery of our mandates,”
The AGF said the Federal Government is committed to building a Civil Service that is focused on Improved Staff Competences and skills; Improved Productivity and Human Resource Administration; Result based performance and meritocratic environment; and a value driven and digitally transformed Civil Service.
The retreat also examined two pillars of the Reform Initiatives of Government under the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP25) namely, the Performance Management System and Digitization of the two pillars that form the bedrock for the successful performance of the Justice Sector Plan.
Participants also took a cursory look at the Monitoring & Evaluation Policy of Nigeria.
