A suspected motorcycle thief was set ablaze by a mob on Tuesday in Makurdi, Benue State, after a failed attempt to snatch a bike. The incident occurred opposite the NNPCL mini station near Tito-Gate along Ibrahim Kashim Road around 8:30 a.m. Witnesses said the suspect and his gang members attacked an Okada rider with scissors, stabbing him multiple times in an attempt to steal his motorcycle.
While his accomplices escaped with the bike, the suspect fell off and was captured by angry youths after the victim raised an alarm. Eyewitnesses reported that the mob used stones, planks, and iron before setting him on fire. Residents lamented frequent cases of motorcycle snatching in the area, urging government intervention. The police said details of the incident would be provided soon.
