The National Association Of University Students, Osun Campus Monitoring Committee, has lauded the Appeal Court judgement reinstating Senator Ademola Adeleke as the Governor of Osun State.
The student group said the judgment signalled hope in the judicial system.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Friday, set aside the tribunal judgment that nullified the election of Adeleke as governor of Osun State.
The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Mohammed Lawal, held that the appeal lodged by Adeleke to challenge his sacking by the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal was meritorious.
Reinstating Adeleke, the court also awarded a sum of N500,000 as a cost against the All Progressive Congress and its candidate in the July 16 2022 governorship election, Gboyega Oyetola.
Lauding the judgement in a statement sent to newsmen on Saturday, NAUS chairman in the state, Eruobami Ayobami, said “the verdict was in line with the will of Osun students.”
“It’s important that we commend the judges. It’s safe to say that there’s still hope in the judiciary, irrespective of how poor the system may have been of recent.
“As students in Osun, we want to reaffirm our stand and advocacy for justice, equity and fairness in any decision that may affect the youths, students and the good people of the state,” the statement co-signed by the body’s national deputy president, Babalola Daniel, partly read.
The statement added that the leadership of NAUS in the state was committed to defending the rights of Nigerian students all the time.
