Japan has designated Kisarazu City in Chiba Prefecture as the official “hometown for Nigerians,” a move aimed at deepening bilateral relations and fostering closer cultural and economic exchanges between both nations.
The announcement was made during the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9). At the event, Mrs. Florence Akinyemi Adeseke, Nigeria’s Chargé d’Affaires and Acting Ambassador to Japan, alongside Yoshikuni Watanabe, Mayor of Kisarazu City, received the official designation certificate on behalf of their countries.
According to Japanese officials, the initiative will not only strengthen people-to-people ties but also open new channels for cooperation in trade, investment, education, and cultural diplomacy. For Nigeria, it signals a fresh opportunity to enhance its presence in Japan, while for Kisarazu, it offers prospects of international partnerships and exchange programmes.
