The Defençe Headquarters says in light of the evolving security challenges across the country, ranging from terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities, the military has intensified its operations across the country.
It said the intensity of the operation is
in collaboration with other sister security agencies to restore peace and stability.
It assured that the operations are guided by professionalism, respect for human rights, and a determination to dismantle all threats undermining national security. “We recognize the concerns of citizens and communities affected by insecurity, and we assure Nigerians that every measure is being taken to ensure their safety.:”
Director Defence Media Operations Major General Michael Onoja disclosed this in a statement, he added that “the Armed Forces remain resolute, focused, and fully dedicated to restoring normalcy, strengthening national unity, and sustaining the security of our country.”
He said that during its operations within the week troops recovered large quantities of various arms, such as automatic weapons, RPG tubes, machine guns, locally fabricated guns, and improvised explosive devices making materials.
Troops also recovered some cache of live cartridges and assorted ammunition . He said that Joint Task Force North East Operations HADIN KAI didn’t only sustained operational momentum by denying Boko Haram, ISWAP and JAS terrorists’ freedom of action in the North East region but conducted series of aggressive operations across the theatre.
During the operations troops killed several terrorists, arrested their informants and logistics suppliers , and rescued 8 kidnapped hostages .
Operations were conducted in
Damboa, Bama, Monguno, Magumeri, Chibok, Ngala, Gwoza, Askira Uba and Abadam LGAs of Borno State. Similar operations were also conducted in Michika and Song LGAs of Adamawa State during which scores of the terrorists were killed in action
The director said similar aggressive operations were conducted by troops of Joint Task Force North West OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA in Shinkafi, Gussau, Maru, Zurmi, Talata Mafara and Bukkuyum LGAs of Zamfara State.
Similarly operations were conducted in Danko Wasagu, Arewa, Augie and Yauri LGAs of Kebbi State as well as Giwa and Birni Gwari LGAs of Kaduna State.
Troops also conducted operations in Binji, Sabon Birni, Gudu, Kebbe and Tangaza LGAs of Sokoto State as well as Faskari, Danmusa, Sabuwa and Batsari LGAs of Katsina State. Operations were also conducted in Mariga and Angwara LGAs of Niger State. “During these operations, several terrorists were killed in action, 15 of them were apprehended, while 13 kidnapped hostages were rescued.”
Similar operations were conducted in the North Central and South East theaters with various successes while DELTA SAFE theatre, troops foiled oil theft worth over One Hundred and Seventy Three Million Seven Hundred and Fifty Seven Thousand Four Hundred and Forty Naira (N173,757,440.00) only.
He said the breakdown indicates; 105,650 litres of stolen crude oil
and 63,820 litres of AGO were recovered.Troops also discovered and destroyed 11 illegal refining sites and arrested 13 oil thieves and other criminals, while assorted arms and ammunition were also recovered.
