Indonesia’s government has suspended the operating licence of TikTok after the platform allegedly failed to provide complete data on activities during recent anti-government protests. Authorities said the app only submitted partial information, despite a September 23 deadline to comply.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs accused TikTok of withholding traffic and monetisation data linked to its live-streaming feature, including accounts suspected of online gambling. Officials described the move as necessary to protect national security and digital transparency.
TikTok, which has more than 100 million users in Indonesia, said it is working with authorities while prioritising user privacy. The suspension comes days after the company was fined $900,000 by the country’s antitrust agency over its Tokopedia acquisition.
