President Muhammadu Buhari said on Friday that individuals financing terrorism in various parts of the country are doing so to remain relevant.
The president stated this in an interview with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) .
Buhari stated this while responding to aquestion on alleged financiers of terrorism, a number of whom the administration claimed have been apprehended and would soon be charged to court.
The President reiterated that most of them are wealthy individuals who are no longer relevant in government.
” Their motive is that they are made irrelevant and they want to use their resources they accumulated over the years to prove that they are still around and the administration will deal with them. Anybody caught will be dealt with,”he stated.
About 400 operators of businesses mostly bureau de change were arrested for allegedly financing Boko Haram terrorists, according to the Attorney general of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN).
But so far no one has been convicted in Court of competent jurisdiction for financing the terrorism group that have racked havoc in the country since 2009.
