Uthman Isa Tochukwu one of the new wig called to bar on December 6, 2022
said he wrote Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), examines six years in pursue of his ambition to become a lawyer.
Tochukwu who happily starting his legal Career with B.I. Dakum & Co. a reputably law firm in Abuja wrote as follows:
“I wrote JAMB 6 times to study Law and today, the 6th December, 2022, I am called to the Bar as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. I am LAWYER!!!
“I write this to let my generation know and understand the importance of passion, patience and perseverance in life. I call it “The three powerful Ps”
PASSION, PATIENCE AND PERSEVERANCE.
“I wrote my first JAMB in 2009 and then followed in this order 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015. you may be surprised to see that 2014 is omitted, yes, its not by accident, I had left for Khartoum in Sudan that particular year for Arabic course after JAMB was not coming through for me.
“when I returned from Khartoum late same year, I enrolled again for the 2015 JAMB and wrote for the 6th time, that was the beginning of this journey that has now made me a Lawyer today.
“I had always wanted to be a Lawyer, for me, it was Law or NOTHING! and I have always wanted to study Law in no other school but Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and so all those six occasions I wrote JAMB, I applied Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. in fact, at a time, my face was so familiar to the Lecturers even before I got admission into the faculty because of the frequent post utme I always come to write.
“I got admission into ABU Zaria in 2015, first in the department of English and Literary Studies, but refused to take the offer, rather, I approached one of the Professors in the Faculty of Law to look at my case. The professor requested for my papers and saw that I had all the requirements to be offered Law; my WAEC AND NECO were one sitting each , my JAMB points was 238 and post umte was 240. He looked at it and placed a call and directed me to meet some persons in the admin, this happened on a Friday afternoon.
” On Monday morning, my name was shortlisted for those that were changed from English and literary studies department to Law, I was told it has never happened before in the University as you cant be changed from non professional course to a Professional course and then it was trending that I must be highly connected.
“It is important to note that on all those six occasions, I was admitted 3 times but I refused to offer the course because it wasn’t Law.
At the end, when I got the Law, I gave it my all and finished with a 2:1 from the Prestigious Faculty of Law Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and then joined the Nigerian Law School class of 2021 where I also passed my Bar exams and was called to the Nigerian Bar on the 6th Of December, 2022 by the Body of Benchers.
I’m now a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
I am open to more interview to share my story to inspire others, go for your dreams and be certain that your dreams are valid. in my words I say, “Consistency and Perseverance are the only acts I know that defy impossibility”
I enjoined youths to dream their dream, chase it with all your mind, body and soul, pray hard and never stop until it submit to you.
“This is my story and you too can do it.
it is possible.”
