The Chairman of Confluence Handball Teams of Lokoja, Jubril Saidu, has said he will ensure that North-Central is one of the best zones in handball.
Saidu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja that his mandate was to oversee the development of the game in his constituency.
“I have been able to inform North-Central teams that we are here and we have come to dominate handball in Nigeria and that’s my dream.
“I struggled to become the zonal representative because I want the North-Central to maintain its position in handball.
“To encourage handball in the North-Central alone, I have been able to give the materials required to play the game.
“I provide balls to other states I don’t even belong in order to encourage them to play handball and I have been doing that even before the federation election,“ said Saidu, who is also the President of North-Central Handball.
He said he was ready to work with Sam Ocheho, the President of the Handball Federation Nigeria (HFN) to propagate the sports in the country.
“If Ocheho is ready for us, we will work together to extend the competition to other zones but as far I am concerned in my zone, I will ensure that handball well played.
“My wish is to ensure that North-Central plays more of handball at the intermediary level and we have not reached there yet because our dream is to develop handball at the grassroots.
“We can always build grassroots if we are ready to work as a family; we in the North-Central want to showcase to other parts of the country that this is what we do best,“ he said.
According to Saidu, Ocheho dream is also to ensure that handball is being played on the street and we can only achieve this if we are ready to be united, by joining hands together to achieve a common interest.
He noted that Ocheho has a passion for the game and would take handball to places because he would be working with the right people.
He said his teams Confluence Stars and Confluence Queens were doing well in the ongoing league.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Saidu is also a member of the elected HFN board.
The league, which began Oct. 21, will end on Nov. 3. (NAN)
