The People Democratic Party (PDP), Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s spokesman in the 2023 election Daniel Bwala said he informed his boss Atiku before he met President Bola Tinubu the Presidential Villa in Abuja last week.
He also said that he informed Atiku about the out come of his meeting with the President and his pledged and convictions to support Tinubu’s programmes and administration, particularly, as the elections and litigations are all over adding that Tinubu is the President of the country.
Bwala stated this in his reaction to the criticisms that trailed his meeting with Tinubu.
The vocal spokesman of the PDP Presidential candidate and staunch critic of Tinubu, met with the president at the State House on January 10, 2024, and pledged his support for the former governor of Lagos State.
His meeting with the number one citizen elicited reactions from Nigerians.
However, Bwala, while speaking on Channels Television’s programme, Sunday Politics, on Sunday night, said: “I informed Atiku Abubakar I was going to see the president.
“After I had seen the president, I informed him (Atiku) that I had just seen the president and he replied me that, ‘Thanks Daniel for notifying me’.”
He stressed that his decision to now support President Tinubu does not mean he betrayed Atiku.
“It’s absolute nonsense for somebody to say because I said I will support President Bola Tinubu therefore I betrayed Atiku,” Bwala added.
It would be recalled that Bwala, during his visit to Tinubu, disclosed to State House correspondents that he came on the invitation of the president.
Asked whether his support for the president will see him leave the PDP and return to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bwala said he visited Tinubu as a private citizen, adding that “God knows tomorrow”.
He said: “Well I am here as a private citizen and who must be bound by the conviction we have towards our country and the need for us to push the country to a better place that we all desire. So, I am not here in the capacity of PDP. First of all, I am not even a leader in the PDP, I am a private citizen.
“But you must also admit that I have had my history with the president when I was in APC, before the primaries I was practically his key spokesman at the time and I supported his course because I believe in him.
“I am also here to say that I am supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu towards achieving the objectives of the programmes to resolve problems in the country.
“I don’t think at this time of hunger and problems in the country somebody should be here talking about party and as per defection God knows tomorrow.”
He said the position that PDP has been in trouble is not in doubt. PDP know it’s problems and as an ordinary member of the party, he was not in a position to know the root causes of the problems.
Pressed further to identify the problems , Bwala said members know that not coming together or not agreeing on a common purpose and focusing on it are all problems.
