Hushpuppi saga: IGP appoints DCP Tunji Disu to head Police Intelligence Response Team

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, has appointed  DCP Tunji Disu as head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) .

Disu’s posting which takes immediate effect has filled the gap created by the suspension of former head of IRT  Abba Kyari who was asked to leave the office on July 31 following his indictment by FBI .

Kyari is currently under investigation by a panel set up by IGP for alleged collusion in a $1.1m Internet fraud perpetrated by a notorious fraudster, Abass Ramon, commonly known as Hushpuppi who is on trial in US.

Nigeria Police in a statement on Monday by its  spokesman, Frank Mba, titled, ‘IGP appoints DCP Tunji Disu as Head, Police Intelligence Response Team,’ stated that the posting was with immediate effect.

The statement read, “The IG charged the new head of the IRT to demonstrate his professional competence in his leadership of the unit.

“He also assured citizens that the IRT will remain focused in the discharge of its duties in line with national statutes and international best practices.”
