The Chief of Defence Staff General Lucky Irabor has visited the scene of bandits’ attack that claimed the lives of two military officers and the abduction of one other officer at the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna.
The CDS along with DOPS DIA and other senior military officers were received by the Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy and other senior officers of the prestigious military institution that operates a unigue university.
The delegation was conducted round the scene of the incident by NDA Commandant in what appears a first hand assessment of the incident.
A report stated that they were told that the bandits gained access into NDA where they committed the havoc, and “escaped through breaching the barbwire fence of the Academy along Airport road in Afaka “
They were further told that “a bushy areas around the officers quarters to fence area is believed to have given the bandits easy concealment during escape.”
However that they noted “that the response time of troops to the crime scene was slow as the bandits successfully broke into five different flats in same block and swiftly withdraw before the intervention of troops.”
The military authorities was also informed that “the bandit’s escape route leads across the Airport road to an open farm/ bush area near Gidan Gado villagein Afaka.”
“The bandits are believed to have escaped to either Buruku and Maguzawa axis or the Riyawa axis in Igabi Local Government Area which is known as notorious bandit’s hideouts.”
The report which appeared like a situation report but unclassified stated that “consequently, there is need for robust clearance operations along those areas”.
It stated that though there is frantic joint efforts y troops and other security forces in the state government to rescue the kidnapped officers, it strongly suggest an overhaul of security arraignment in NDA to avert future recurrence.
