Hope for peace in Benue rised

Following the intervention of the paramount ruler of the Tiv Kingdom, the Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty Professor James Iorzua Ortese Ayatse there are high hopes that peace will return to Tiv nation and the Benue State in general.

This was contained in a communique issued lately at the end of the reconciliatory meeting initiated by HRM the Tor Tiv and Chairman Benue State Council of Traditional Rulers Professor James Iorzua Ortese held at the seat of power of the Tiv nation, Gboko.

The communique which was signed by the the Secretary to the Tiv Traditional Council, Mr. Shinyi Tyozua revealed that the arrowheads in the crisis in the state, Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator George Akume agreed to bury the hatchet, sheath their swords and work together for the development of the Tiv nation and Benue state at large.

The communique which called on the romour mongers to steer clear of  the two politicians also cautioned the Tiv sons and daughters who were making public utterances on social media among other platforms to desist from anything capable of igniting distrust and hostility among the two politicians.

“The meeting called for recognition and accommodation of all Tiv sons and daughters in various leadership positions so as to gain from team work for mutual benefit of all and sundry.

” The council commended Governor Hyacinth Alia and The SGF, Senator George Akume for honouring their invitation and their open and frank discussion and resolution and believes that their working together will put an end to the menace of armed herdsmen attacks and banditry in the state”.

According to the communique, the council put in place a committee chaired by the Tor Tiv to monitor and ensure full  restoration of peace between the feuding arrowhead politicians and their followers.

Council also agreed that members of the national assembly from Tiv extraction from Benue State would be invited soon for a similar interface with a view to resolving all grey areas between them and Governor Alia to enable them work together for the good of the state.
