Samuel Ocheho, the president of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) has said that the Federation would re-introduce the phased arrangement of its league, in 2022, so as to give teams enough time to prepare for the league.
Ocheho disclosed this at the closing ceremony of the 2021 Prudent Energy Handball Premier League on Wednesday, in Abuja.
He said he was happy that the league ended well, citing the level of Handball as having improved in the country.
“I’m so excited and great that it has been an excellent tournament and we did not know the winner even though it was on a round robin basis.
” We didn’t know the winner until the very finally minutes and that is what I always wanted to see.
“We don’t want a situation whereby the winner could have been runner away league, but for me it’s shows that the game is improving,” he said
He said the federation would resume the first and second phase arrangement in the next edition of the league.
“Next season we will go back to our first and second phase basis. so we expect to see more fireworks. We expect to see greater things happening in the game of Handball in the country, ” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kano Pillars and Safety Babes, respectively, won the male and female categories of the 2021 Prudent Energy Handball Premier League.
A total of 21 teams, comprising 10 female and 11 male teams, featured in the premier league, which ended on Wednesday at the Moshood Abiola National stadium, Abuja.
