Lisha Dachor, a 19-year-old nail painter from Plateau State, Nigeria, has just completed a 72-hour nail painting marathon in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record.
During the event, known as a “nail-a-thon,” Dachor painted over 4,000 artificial nails in a span of 72 hours.
Excited about her achievement, Dachor took to her Facebook page to express her gratitude for the support she received and mentioned that she broke a new milestone in the world of nail art.
She wrote, “Breaking barriers and setting records! Honoured to have set a new milestone in the world of nail art with the longest marathon painting of artificial nails by an individual. Grateful for the journey and the incredible support.”
Dachor announced her intention to undertake the challenge on April 25 and carried it out from April 28 to May 1 at Odilin’s Event Centre in Jos, the capital of Plateau State. She also offered free bus transportation to and from the venue for attendees.
During an interview with the BBC, Dachor stated that she wanted to use her record attempt to showcase the beauty of Plateau State and challenge stereotypes about teen mothers like herself.
“People judge the Plateau by its cover. Apart from the ethnic issues we have, Plateau is a beautiful place. I got support from all ethnic groups while I embarked on this attempt, I want to give people hope, especially single mothers, because many people don’t think we have anything to offer,” she said.
Following the conclusion of the event, Dachor is now waiting for the review of her attempt by the Guinness World Records.
The announcement of her achievement was met with celebration and commendations from various individuals, including Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Muftwang, who praised her “record-breaking spirit.”
“I proudly join in celebrating Lisha Seleme Dachor’s record-breaking spirit of a young talent from Plateau State on her Guinness World Record attempt for the longest nail art marathon. Your determination aligns with my administration’s policy objectives for the youth and inspires us all,” he wrote.
This record-breaking feat follows recent accomplishments by other Nigerians, including chess master Tunde Onakoya, who set a new record for the longest marathon chess, and social media entrepreneur Clara Kronborg, who broke the record for the longest interview.
