Former Air Force spokesman Air Commodore Maigida is dead

The immediate past Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida, is dead.

Maigida reportedly slumped and died on Sunday in Abuja. His former boss and former DOPRI, Group Captain Sadeeq Shehu (rtd), broke the news of the death on his Facebook page, saying: “I join the Chief of the Air Staff, officers and men and DOPRI personnel to mourn the death of Air Commodore Wap Maigida. A dependable subordinate to his superiors and a compassionate superior to his subordinates.”

Maigida assumed office as DOPRI on January 6, 2023, taking over from his predecessor, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, who is now the Commander 551 NAF Station, Jos.

Coincidentally, Air Commodore Maigida handed over to Air Commodore Gabkwet as Commander NAF Station Jos.

He was relieved of the post of DOPRI in early March just about two months and some days after assuming office.

Maigida was also a former Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to Air Marshal Jonah Wuyep, former Chief of the Air Staff.

He also served for several years as Deputy Director and Acting Director Defence Information at the Defence Headquarters Abuja.

Air Cdre Maigida who is the 18th DOPRI, was a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

A member of 42 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Air Cdre Wapkerem Maigida, was commissioned into the NAF in 1995.

The senior officer holds a Master of Science Degree in Security and Strategic Studies and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History both from NDA. He equally obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations and Advertisement from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos
