The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the death of five officers following a gun duel with suspected bandits in Sabon Sara village, Darazo LGA. The officers were attacked on Saturday while on an intelligence-led visibility patrol aimed at preventing farmer-herder clashes in the area. Two other officers sustained injuries during the ambush.
According to the command, the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. and involved personnel from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), 10 PMF Bauchi, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), and the State Intelligence Department (SID). The officers killed include DSP Ahmad Muhammad, ASP Mustapha Muhammad, Inspectors Amarhel Yunusa and Idris Ahmed, and Corporal Isah Muazu.
