A devastating fire has destroyed 44 shops and stores at the popular Singa Market in Kano State, leaving traders counting their losses. The inferno, which started around 5:00 a.m. on Monday, consumed a section of the market before firefighters brought it under control.
According to the Kano State Fire Service, the blaze gutted a one-storey building known as Alhaji Abdulmunafi Yunusa House, along with 25 temporary shops and 19 upper-floor stores. Quick intervention by emergency responders prevented the flames from spreading to other nearby shops.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault, as officials discovered poor wiring and a single power switch servicing the entire structure. The agency has urged traders to adopt safer electrical practices to prevent future tragedies.
