A fire outbreak at Ile Oba-Ologun, Ita-Amadu area of Ilorin in the Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State on Friday night destroyed property estimated at N27.8 million.
The fire which engulfed a two-flat building of about six rooms as a result of a power surge, according to the Kwara State Fire Service, started around 5 pm in the commercial nerve centre of the town.
The Fire Service in a statement by the Head of Media and Publicity, Hassan Adekunle, and made available to newsmen on Saturday, noted that firemen were able to save property worth about N43.3 million as a result of prompt action and display of diligent action to put the fire under control.
The statement read, “On Friday, November 3, 2023, around 5 p.m., fire gutted a building of about two flats and six rooms as a result of a power surge.
“Upon receiving the distress call, the Kwara State Fire Service promptly mobilised its firefighting team to the scene. The firefighters arrived at the location and swiftly initiated firefighting operations to suppress the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further.
“Through the use of specialised equipment and firefighting techniques, the fire service personnel worked diligently to bring the situation under control.
“Six rooms were affected in the building, however, the firemen were able to perform excellently well to minimize the damage, therefore other flats in the building including many tangible properties were saved from the scathed fire.”
The Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Falade Olumuyiwa, urged residents to cultivate the habit of switching off their electrical appliances before bedtime, adding that “this would help them to prevent the chances of fire outbreaks in their various homes and also help them to drastically reduce the incident of fire outbreak in the state.”
