Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on Thursday commissioned a new 132/33kV, 63MVA mobile power substation in Eleyele, Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State, adding 50.4 megawatts (MW) to the national grid. The project was executed by FGN Power Company in collaboration with Siemens Energy under the Presidential Power Initiative.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Adelabu said the facility would significantly improve electricity supply to residents and businesses in Apete, Ologuneru, Sango, and other parts of Ibadan. He emphasized that the Eleyele substation is one of six mobile substations aimed at injecting a total of 302.4MW into the country’s transmission infrastructure.
The minister also revealed that a similar 50.4MW mobile substation is nearing completion at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), in Imo State. He reiterated the government’s commitment to modernizing the national grid and enhancing energy access across the country.
In June, the Director-General of the Energy Commission, Mustapha Abdullahi, disclosed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration had already added 2000MW to the national grid. Currently, Nigeria’s power generation fluctuates between 4,500MW and 5,148MW for an estimated population exceeding 250 million.
