The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the disbursement of N4.1 billion to the six area councils of the FCT, with a directive that the funds be used to pay the N30,000 minimum wage and outstanding arrears owed to workers.
This decision followed a meeting with the chairmen of the area councils and top officials of the FCT Administration, where the minister emphasized his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and financial accountability across the territory.
“There’s no excuse for any council to delay salary payments anymore. This fund should be used to settle all outstanding obligations to workers, including arrears of the minimum wage,” Wike said.
The area councils expected to benefit from the disbursement are Abuja Municipal, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, and Abaji. Each council will receive a portion based on verified obligations and salary data submitted to the minister’s office.
The move comes as part of broader efforts to restore transparency, service delivery, and labor harmony in the FCT, ahead of planned administrative reforms.
