Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has stirred political discussions after he declared that the newly proposed opposition coalition against President Bola Tinubu is bound to fail.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” Fayose described the coalition—reportedly being orchestrated by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai—as a “dead horse” and a “waste of time.”
According to Fayose, the initiative lacks the credible leadership and national backing required to mount a formidable challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
“The opposition coalition is going nowhere. It’s a waste of time. It’s not backed by the right people and has no chance against President Tinubu,” Fayose stated firmly.
He also warned that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is facing internal disarray and heading towards total collapse if urgent structural reforms are not carried out. Fayose insisted that without fixing its deep-rooted issues, the PDP cannot serve as a credible alternative in the next elections.
In a bold declaration, Fayose reiterated that he would never support Atiku’s presidential ambition, just as he openly worked against him in the 2023 polls. He claimed that some opposition governors actually prefer Tinubu’s leadership, citing political survival over blind loyalty.
