Nigerian rapper, actor, and activist Falz has shared his deep concerns about raising his future children in Nigeria, revealing he is uncertain about making the country their home due to prevailing national issues.
In a recent interview, Falz—real name Folarin Falana—was asked whether he would raise his children in Nigeria. The question caught him off guard, prompting a reflective pause before he responded with honesty and concern.
“Ah! That’s a deep question. I didn’t expect to hear this question. I haven’t really thought that far, let me not lie,” he said. “But it’s something that I can’t actually say ‘yes’ to because of what we are talking about: insecurity in the country, threats due to my activism, and Nigerians’ docility.”
The artist, known for using his music to advocate for justice and social change, explained that while he remains optimistic about Nigeria’s potential, the current realities make it difficult for him to confidently commit to raising a family there.
“It’s something I cannot outrightly say ‘yes’ to. And it’s so sad. But I can’t also outrightly say ‘no’ because I’m pro-Nigerian and I really believe that we can actually get it right. But I don’t know… let’s see.”
Falz’s candid remarks have sparked intense debate online, resonating with many young Nigerians who face similar fears about the safety, future, and opportunities for their children amid growing insecurity, economic challenges, and political unrest in the country.
