FAAN Issues Statement On Security Incident At Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed an incident involving renowned Nigerian musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (popularly known as K1 De Ultimate), during boarding procedures at the domestic terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

According to a statement released by FAAN, the altercation took place on Tuesday, August 5, during boarding for ValueJet Flight VK 201 headed to Lagos. The passenger, identified as K1 De Ultimate, allegedly attempted to carry an unidentified liquid substance later discovered to be alcohol onboard, in contravention of Nigeria’s aviation security regulations.

Despite multiple warnings from Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers and the flight captain, the musician reportedly declined to comply. Matters escalated when he allegedly spilled the contents of the flask on a security officer after refusing to step aside for further checks. The situation led to the closure of the aircraft door by the flight captain once boarding was confirmed.

K1 reportedly proceeded to the front of the aircraft and declined to vacate the area, prompting AVSEC personnel to escort him off the plane for further questioning. He was later released after interrogation.

FAAN emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on breaches of aviation safety protocols, stating:

“The Authority will not tolerate any actions that compromise operational integrity or undermine aviation safety standards, regardless of the individuals involved.”

The case remains under investigation, and FAAN assures that anyone found culpable will be held accountable in accordance with the law.

The press release was signed by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection.
