EPL: Haaland Breaks Record For Most Goals In 38-Game Season

Erling Haaland, the Manchester City striker, is currently on fire in the Premier League.Haaland has now broken the Premier League record for goals in a 38-game season.Haaland achieved the feat after scoring a goal in Man City’s Premier League 4-1 win against Arsenal on Wednesday night at the Etihad Stadium. The Norway international has been in sensational form throughout his debut season in England for Man City. The 22-year-old has been chasing the goalscoring record set by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah during the 2017-18 season when the Egyptian scored 32 goals throughout Liverpool’s Premier League campaign before Haaland’s arrival.Haaland levelled Salah’s tally during Man City’s 3-1 win over Leicester City this month before overtaking him with his goal against Arsenal last night. However, the former Borussia Dortmund attacker is still not the highest single-season goalscorer in the league’s history, after Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer both scored 34 goals in 1993-94 and 1994-95, respectively. These achievements were met when the Premier League season was four games longer, owing to 22 top-flight clubs. It means that Cole and Shearer have an unfair advantage over Haaland in regard to the number of matches that they can achieve the goalscoring record in.Despite this, Haaland remains on track to surpass both of them, given the fact Man City still have seven top-flight matches remaining.
