The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) on Tuesday denounced a police officer who filed an eight-count criminal charges against former Minister of Aviation, Senator Stella Adaeze Oduah at the Federal High Court In Abuja as an ex-staff.
EFCC lawyer H.A.Okonfua told the Federal High Court that the police officer Ibrahim Mohammed who filed the eight count charge against former minister of Aviation Stella Oduah was no longer a staff of the anti graft agency EFCC.
She said that EFCC had investigated the source and authenticity of the charge as directed by the court and found that the person who signed it Ibrahim Mohammed was redeployed to Police Forces Headquarters on November 4, 2022 . He signed the charge on June 22, 2023 as a staff of EFCC and is prosecuting the case himself seven months after his exist from the commission.
Okonfua Futher told the court that the detail report of EFCC investigation has been filed at the court registry. Justice James Omotosho said that since the report is not yet in his file he will adjourn the matter to October 4.
Recall that last week’s Tuesday a prosecuting police officer, had caused suspicion in court when he appeared as EFCC lawyer trying to arraign of Oduah on eight count charge .
Trial court judge, James Omotosho suspected foul play when he noticed that a police officer who claimed he has been redeployed from EFCC to legal department force Headquarters since November 4, 2022 is appearing for EFCC in the matter.
A mild drama then ensued in the court room that cumulated in Justice Omotoso ordering investigation of prosecution counsel, Ibrahim Mohammed who filed the eight count charge against Senator Stella Odua.
The judge ruled that, “in view of the fact that Ibrahim Mohammed signed this charge on June 22, 2023 and having admitted himself to have left EFCC in November, 2022. This court make an order directing EFCC to investigate and report back. Counsel in company with police shall report to EFCC immediately.”
