The Department of the State Security Services (DSS), has released eight associates of the Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Igboho and the remaining four detainees are likely to be released from the custody of the Department of State Security Services (DSS).
Those released are Abideen Shittu, Omoolapo Abdulateef, Ayobami Donald,Oluwapelumi Olakunle,Diakola Jubiril,Bamidele Sunday, Raji Kazeem and Taiwo Tajudeen who are the 1st, 4th,5th,7th,9th,10th and 11th plaintiffs in the fundamental human rights suit before the Federal High Court. The 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 8th plaintiffs are still in custody of the DSS, their lawyer Mr Pelumi Olajengbesi announced on Monday.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu the Federal High Court vacation judge had on August 4th, granted bail to the 12 detainees who were arrested on July 1 at the Ibadan resident of Sunday Igboho. Though the detainees fulfilled all their bail conditions as granted by the court including the provision of two sureties.that owned landed property in Abuja they were not released until yesterday.
Their lawyer, Mr Pelumi Olajengbesi who had threatened last weekend to commence contempt proceedings against the Director General of the State Security Services (SSS), Yusuf Magaji Bichi told journalists on Monday that he is hopeful the remaining four detainees will be released today.
He said ordinarily the 12 detainees would have been released on Monday but for some technical hitches .He did not explain what the hitches are. But added that the defence are no longer accusing the DSS of bais in the matter though suffice to state that they have not prefer any charge against his clients.
