The Department of State Services (DSS) has finally allowed family members to visit Atiku Abubakar Isah, the detained President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), after more than a month of incommunicado detention.
The decision followed intensifying public pressure, legal intervention, and media scrutiny surrounding Isah’s controversial arrest and lack of formal charges.
Isah was reportedly arrested in connection with a scandal involving Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The family had submitted formal requests and followed official procedures for visitation but were repeatedly denied—until now.
Civil society groups and student leaders have decried the continued detention without charge as unconstitutional.
Legal experts stress that holding a citizen without charge or court order violates Section 35 of the Nigerian Constitution, which guarantees personal liberty.
