Dennis should be recalled to Eagles – Ex-stars

Watford forward Emmanuel Dennis deserves a recall to the Super Eagles, according to former national team players.

Dennis, who has three international caps for the Eagles, last featured for the team in 2020 as a late substitute for Kelechi Iheanacho in the 82nd minute in the team’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone in Freetown on November 17, 2020.

The 24-year-old who is Nigeria’s highest scorer in the English Premier League so far this season with five goals and five assists in 12 games is also the third most in-form African striker in the EPL after Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Speaking with The PUNCH, former Super Eagles assistant coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, said the former Club Brugge forward deserves a second chance to prove himself in the team ahead of the AFCON.

“He (Dennis) is a good player and deserves a chance in the team,” Amuneke said.

“We see his qualities and how best he can be used but it’s up to the manager to decide which player fits into his plan.”

Former Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu, also said the former Cologne player will offer good competition to the team if considered.

“Dennis has shown his class in the Premier League and he deserves a chance in the team. He needs to show the coach he is better than what he has at his disposal. His invitation will be a good boost to the team.”

Dennis remains a doubt for Watford’s clash against Chelsea on Wednesday (today) at Vicarage Road.
