Dangote Group has vowed to provide comprehensive medical care and compensation for Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Josephina “Phyna” Otabor, following a severe accident involving one of the company’s trucks near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State.
The incident left Ruth with critical injuries, including the amputation of one leg, a risk to the other, and damage to her head and hand.
In an emotional Instagram post, Phyna expressed frustration, alleging that the company attempted to obscure the truck’s involvement.
“Dear @aliko_dangotegcon @dangotegroup, you decided to tell the Nigerian police to remove the plate number on the truck that crushed my sister,” she stated, adding, “Na money you get, you no be God. My God is bigger.”
In response, Dangote Group issued a statement on Thursday, clarifying that senior officials from Dangote Cement Plc and their insurance team swiftly visited the accident scene, coordinated with law enforcement, and met with Ruth and her family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.
The company emphasized its commitment, stating, “This reflects our unwavering dedication to the well-being of those impacted.”
They further assured that Ruth would receive “full support, including comprehensive medical care and appropriate compensation, in line with Dangote Group’s welfare policy.”
The statement concluded with well-wishes: “Our thoughts are with Mrs. Ruth Otabor and her loved ones, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery.”
A accompanying photo showed company representatives meeting Ruth’s husband at the hospital, underscoring their engagement with the family.
