Court send girl to psychiatric home for false tweet of her own kidnap

Wuse District Chief Magistrate, Chukwuemeka Nweke has sent a girl, one Miss Zainab Ameerah Sufyan who tweeted that she was kidnapped, to a psychiatric home for 12 months observation.

Miss Zainab, a Twitter user had on June 14, 2022 sent out an information alleging that she had been kidnapped along with 16 other persons by certain men in military outfit. Her twit turned out to be false after police investigation.

The Chief Magistrate ordered that Zainab be released conditionally to a probation officer , Deputy Commissioner of Police, Hauwa Ibrahim who would take her to the psychiatric home.

Her tweet had gone viral and caused public out cry demanding for her rescue, which resulted in Police investigation. In the course of the investigation police found that her kidnap claim was falsed. That Zainab at the time she tweeted her kidnap was at a hospital in Lagos from where she sent the false information.

She was arraigned on Wednesday in Abuja before an Wuse Chief Magistrate Nweke under Section 140 of the Panel Code. She promptly pleaded guilty to the charge of misleading the police when the charge was read to her.

Prosecuting police officer James Idachaba, however, tendered a medical report indicating that Zainab Ameerah Sufyan was suffering from a mental illness, when she gave the false information. That the defendant should be place under non-custodial imprisonment.

Chief Magistrate Nweke further ordered Zainab to undertake to be of good behavior .
