The Chief of Defence Staff ( CDS) General Christopher Gwabin Musa on Tuesday seeks military collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to bring to an end the contentious farmer/ herders conflicts in the country.
A statement by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau , Director Defence Information DDI, said General Musa made the call during a courtesy visit on the Minister of Agriculture Senator Abubakar Kyari in Abuja.
General Musa expressed military desire to work with the ministry of Agriculture to find an enduring solution to the reoccurring farmer/ herders clashes.
The Defence Chief also informed the Minister of the readiness of the Defence Headquarters to establish Defence Farms to encourage members of the Armed Forces to embrace farming culture.
He said that food security must be achieved to check it’s diverse effects on insecurity and commended the ministry of Agriculture’s giant efforts in addressing food security in the country
In his response, the minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari who received the CDS in company of the minister of state, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi thanked Gen. Musa for being the first Chief of Defence Staff to visit the ministry.
He seized the opportunity to inform the CDS of government policies aimed towards improving food security in Nigeria. Senator Kyari also commended the AFN for ensuring the safe return of farmers back to the farm lands.
He further maintained that citizens move freer now than before. He called for the need to collaborate more with AFN to ensure food sufficiency in our nation.
Also on Tuesday, the CDS called for urgent rehabilitation of some roads to facilitate Military operations. He made the call when he visited the Minister of Works , Senator Dave Omahi.
According to the CDS, “good roads are pivotal to Military operations, while calling for urgent attention to roads in areas of military operations”.
In his response, the Minister of Works and Housing , Senator Dave Omahi condoled with the CDS on the recent unfortunate killing of Military Personnel in Delta State.
He thanked the Armed Forces of Nigeria ( AFN) for it’s approach in handling the situation. Sen Umahi also commended the military for the renewed vigour in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria. He further assured of his ministry readiness to partner the AFN to rehabilitate roads that are critical to military operations.
