A Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting Apo District of Abuja on Tuesday sentenced the former chairman of House of Representatives panel on fuel subsidy investigation Hon. Lawan Faruq to a total of 19 years imprisonment.
Justice Angela Otaluka who handed down the sentence found Faruq guilty of count one and two and sentenced him to seven years jail terms on each of the counts.
The judge also found the convict guilty on count three for which she sentenced him to five years imprisonment.
She said however that the sentences are to run concurrently meaning Faruq will spend seven years in jail.
Delivering the judgement , justice Otekula said that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) which filed the case against Faruq had proved it’s case against beyond any reasonable doubt that the defendand demanded and received the bribe money totaling $500,000 dollars from a businessman Femi Otedola in order to exonerate his firm Zexon Petroleum and Gas LTD and to delete its name from the list of firms indicted.
The court further ordered the convict to return the $500,000 dollars he collected from Odetola to the federal government.
