The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote transparency, accountability, and ethical practices in public procurement.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen public financial management and ensure value for money in government spending.
BPP Director-General, Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, emphasised the importance of collaboration, stating, “Public procurement is the fulcrum of all professionalism. It brings all professional bodies into an ecosystem that works for the betterment of Nigeria.
The MoU will enable BPP to report errant accountants to ICAN for disciplinary action, ensuring that those who engage in corrupt practices are held accountable.
ICAN President, Mallam Haruna Nma Yahaya, pledged his organisation’s commitment to supporting BPP, highlighting four key areas of focus: Value for Money, Strict Discipline, National Savings, and Capacity Development.
The reward for hard work is more work, he said, expressing confidence that the partnership would yield significant benefits for Nigeria.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by representatives from both organisations.
