Veteran politician and Board of Trustees (BoT) member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has boldly declared the “resurrection” of the opposition party following a pivotal National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting aimed at resolving the internal crisis plaguing the party.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, George said:
“We have already done the resurrection today. An iroko tree doesn’t die — this party is an iroko tree because the tap root is so deep.”
George took aim at what he described as self-centered politicians who have strayed from the founding ideals of the PDP. He emphasized that the NEC meeting served as a wake-up call, reviving the party’s unity and reminding members of their collective responsibility.
“This party is not a party for one individual. No individual can claim ownership of this party.”
He described the outcome of the NEC meeting as reinvigorating, stating it reminded him of the PDP’s glory days when it was at the pinnacle of Nigerian politics.
George disclosed that BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara urged party members to shed personal interests for the greater good of the PDP and the nation.
“We have learnt a lesson… The PDP NEC meeting was the realisation of the failures and things that we have done.”
When asked whether he would consider defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the elder statesman gave a resounding “No.”
He criticized the economic hardship under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, and reiterated his belief that the 2023 presidential election lacked credibility, saying:
“The APC did not win the 2023 presidential election. The electoral process was not in good shape.”
Bode George’s fiery remarks underscore growing efforts within the PDP to regain stability and rebuild its national influence. His comments reflect both an internal reckoning and a renewed resolve to challenge the APC amid increasing public dissatisfaction with Nigeria’s economic realities.
