BIRS seeks collaboration with tactical Air Command for effective tax administration

The Acting Chairman, Benue State Internal Revenue Service, BIRS,  Mr. Emmanuel Agema has solicited for collaboration with the Makurdi Tactical Air Command for effective tax administration within the command.

The Acting Chairman of BIRS who led other management staff on a visit to the Command expressed the belief that the collaboration would enable government to generate money for the purpose of good governance

A statement by the Media Assistant to the BIRS boss, Jacintha Bernard said that the Chairman who congratulated the Air Officer Commanding, presented some tax issues concerning payment of Personal income tax and solicited for his support urging him to work with the service by providing them with vital information to enable them collect personal income tax particularly Pay as you Earn(PAYEE) from civilian employees  which will enable the service, build tax payers register in the state and improve revenue generation.

The tax boss, the statement emphasized noted that since Olam Ng.Limited, a company working in Lokobi is housed by the Air command which is located in Benue State, It is mandated by law in line with PITA 2011 as Amended and the Benue revenue administrative Law, 2022 to remit their taxes(PAYEE) due to Benue where they reside.

The statement revealed that the Chairman made several efforts to assess this company to tax failed because, the company is situated in a restricted area.

The statement quoted the  Chairman as calling for collaboration and co-operation to enable him deliver in his mandate of improving revenue generation in the state by bringing all income earners including the informal sector into BIRS tax net.

“He also solicited for their unalloyed support to clamp down on irregularities associated with tax collections in the state and improve security to improve business  transactions in the state.”

In his response, the Air Officer Commanding, F.O. Edosa who appreciated the Acting Chairman and his entourage for the visit maintained that tax payment was a constitutional obligation necessary for state development.

Edosa who pledged his unalloyed support to the Service in providing vital information concerning data of taxable income earners in the command to ensuring that all income earners including informal sectors remit their taxes to the state also acknowledged the massive support by the leadership of the State saying Governor Hyacinth Alia has been of great support to the command. 

He urged BIRS team to work hard and remain committed to ensuring that the good agenda of the administration is achieved.
