Makurdi, Benue State – The Benue State Government has announced its plan to demolish all illegal structures in Makurdi, the state capital. In a press conference held on Thursday, the state’s Commissioner for Works and Housing, Mr. Itiza Imojime, revealed that this decision was reached during Wednesday’s State Executive Council meeting.
“The State Executive Council has approved the demolition of all illegal structures and those built on waterways in Makurdi,” stated Imojime. He further explained that structures that failed structural and integrity tests will also be subject to demolition.
According to Imojime, this move is aimed at safeguarding lives and property, as well as addressing the long-standing issue of flooding in the state capital. By removing illegal structures and those at risk of structural failure, the government hopes to mitigate future flood-related disasters.
In addition to the demolition plan, Imojime disclosed that the council is seeking to establish a database for the state’s youth population. The Ministry of Youths, Sports, and Creativity is calling on all youths in the state to submit their data for capture. This database will serve as a valuable resource for effective planning and administration of youth programs in Benue State.
The implementation of these measures highlights the government’s commitment to improving the living conditions and overall development of the state capital. The demolition and data collection processes are expected to start in the coming weeks.
