Benue police confirm death of Catholic priest

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the death of a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr Faustinus Gundu.

The Parish Priest of St. Joseph Catholic Church Jootar, in Ukum Local Government Area, of the state was reported to have died on Thursday in a mysterious circumstance.

A version of the report said that the Catholic priest was struck by lightning and died while another version reported that the Rev Fr slumped and died.

It was however gathered that late Fr Gundu who had spread a towel outside rushed out to pick it up when suddenly heaven opened up the shower.

“In the process of rushing out to pick the towel outside, he slipped and fell hitting his head on a hard surface.

“As at the time of the incident, no one was available to help the priest, he was there throughout the rain lasted”, a source who does not want to be mentioned in print said.

It was gathered that at the time people knew of the incident, he had given up the ghost.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benue, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident.

She, however, could not confirm whether he slumped and died or he died by thunder.

She said, “I received the report but they alleged thunder. It is until we investigate before that will be concluded.”
