Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has announced the dissolution of the State Executive Council (SEC) on Wednesday, signaling a major administrative overhaul.
The decision was revealed through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, shared with journalists in Makurdi.
According to Kula, Governor Alia disclosed the dissolution during the 12th SEC meeting of 2025, instructing all commissioners to promptly hand over their duties to the permanent secretaries of their respective ministries.
Expressing gratitude, Alia commended the outgoing commissioners for their two years of service and encouraged those not reappointed to remain active within the party.
“Your exit paves the way for other citizens to contribute to Benue’s progress,” Alia said, emphasizing the importance of collective development.
In a related move, the governor appointed Mr. Moses Atagher, a legal practitioner, as the new Chief of Staff, succeeding Mr. Paul Biam.
Atagher, a seasoned administrator, previously served two terms as Benue’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and held the role of acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank.
Speaking on behalf of the dissolved council, Mr. Bemsen Mnyim, the immediate past Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, thanked Alia for the opportunity to serve.
“Every role we undertake is a learning experience. Working with you has been a profound lesson in service,” Mnyim remarked.
Alia’s actions underscore his commitment to refreshing the state’s leadership to drive development, with Atagher’s appointment signaling a focus on experienced governance.
