Bloggers and Vloggers, Content Creators Association in Nigeria (BAVCCA) has called on Nigerians to enter the year 2026 with renewed hope, unity and a strong sense of responsibility toward nation-building.
This is contained in a statement signed on Saturday by the President of the Bloggers and Vloggers, Content Creators Association (BAVCCA), Ikechukwu Chukwunyere.
In its New Year message to citizens at home and in the diaspora, the association said 2026 would be a defining year for Nigeria, especially as political activities intensify ahead of the next general elections.
BAVCCA urged Nigerians to be deliberate and discerning in their political choices, stressing the need to prioritise integrity, competence and clear vision when electing leaders at all levels of government — from the grassroots to the presidency. The association noted that informed participation, peaceful engagement and strict adherence to democratic values are vital to achieving credible elections and producing leaders capable of driving national development.
The group also raised concerns over the worsening security situation across the country, describing insecurity as one of the gravest threats to lives, livelihoods and national unity. It listed banditry, kidnapping, insurgency and communal clashes as persistent challenges disrupting communities and slowing development.
According to BAVCCA, Nigerians must remain vigilant, support community policing efforts and demand accountability from security agencies, while leaders must place the protection of lives and property at the top of their priorities. The association stressed that peace is fundamental to economic and social progress.
On the economy, BAVCCA acknowledged the growing hardship faced by citizens, citing inflation, unemployment and the rising cost of living as major burdens, particularly on youths and small business owners. It called on government and relevant stakeholders to roll out policies that boost local production, create jobs, stabilise prices and protect vulnerable groups. The association also encouraged Nigerians to embrace entrepreneurship, innovation and responsible economic practices to strengthen the economy.
The message further highlighted corruption and lack of accountability as enduring obstacles to national growth. BAVCCA said mismanagement of public funds, abuse of office and poor transparency continue to erode public trust and stall development. It urged citizens to resist bribery, demand accountability and support initiatives that promote integrity and expose corruption.
Education was identified as another critical area requiring urgent attention. The association stressed that access to quality education, adequate funding, well-trained teachers and improved infrastructure are essential for preparing Nigerian youths for global competitiveness. It described education as the foundation of sustainable development and a vital tool for addressing unemployment and insecurity.
BAVCCA also pointed to power and energy as key drivers of development, lamenting that unreliable electricity and weak infrastructure continue to hamper industrial growth, reduce productivity and affect daily life. Nigerians were encouraged to support sustainable energy initiatives while holding authorities accountable for providing stable and affordable power.
Reaffirming its role, the association pledged continued commitment to responsible journalism, ethical content creation and the promotion of truth. It warned against misinformation, hate speech and divisive narratives, urging Nigerians to embrace dialogue, unity and active citizenship.
The association expressed optimism that 2026 would usher in credible leadership, improved security, economic recovery, better education, reliable energy supply and renewed hope for all Nigerians.
