The Bauchi State Police Command has warned against the use of tinted glasses and covered number plates by private and unauthorized cars in the State.
The Command said that it has observe that the practice is now on the increase in the State pointing out that it poses a great risk to public safety and order.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Ahmed Wakil, stated these in a media statement made available to journalists in the State on Saturday.
He said that the use of tinted glasses and covering of number plates makes it difficult for security agencies to identify vehicles used in criminal activities.
Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, called on all unauthorized users to desist for such practices warning that the Command would begin clamping down on all defaulters.
The statement was entitled: “Ban on tinted glasses and covered number plates: Motorists Warned Against Use of Illegal Tinted Glass and Covered Number Plates. CP directs clampdown and full enforcement.”
He said: “Bauchi State Police Command has issued a warning against the use of illegal tinted glass and concealed number plates on vehicles. The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, has noted a rise in the use of these items on private and unauthorized vehicles.
“The use of tinted glass and concealed number plates on vehicles poses a significant risk to public safety and order in the state. It makes it difficult for law enforcement officials to identify vehicles involved in criminal activities, thereby hindering their efforts to maintain a safe environment for all.
“To ensure compliance with regulations regarding tinted glass and concealed number plates, all motorists plying public roads are urged to desist from this practice. The Bauchi State Police Command is committed to enforcing the law and has directed a clampdown on violators.
“We urge members of the public to comply with these regulations and work with law enforcement officials to maintain a safe environment for all. Together, we can make Bauchi State a better place for everyone.”
