A ward chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Mr Olumide Awolumate, is set to be punished for allegedly beating the state Commissioner for Woman Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Juliana Osadahun.
The incident occurred on Sunday during the distribution of palliatives in Arigidi Akoko. A video of the altercation went viral, showing Awolumate engaging in a physical fight with Osadahun.
The state chairman of the APC, Mr Ade Adetimehin, has condemned the attack and said that the party would take disciplinary action against Awolumate. He said that the party does not tolerate indiscipline and that Awolumate would be suspended for his actions.
The Deputy Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Princess Oluwatosin Ajirotutu, has also condemned the assault and called on the state police command to arrest and prosecute Awolumate. She said that it is barbaric to assault women and that Awolumate should face the full wrath of the law.
It is not yet clear what the specific punishment will be for Awolumate, but it is likely that he will be suspended from the APC and possibly face criminal charges.
