A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) sitting in Maitama District on Friday admitted Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Prof. Mike Ozekhome and Ponfa Useni to N10m bail each .
Prof. Mike Ozekhome SAN and his co-defendant were arraignment on Friday on. 12-count criminal charge brought against them by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (OAGF).
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to According to the court to the charge they were said to have forged documents including an international passport and an irrevocable power of attorney to lay claim to a property in London allegedly procured unlawfully by the late General Jeremiah Useni.
Prosecuting lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) did not oppose bail for the defendants when Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), for Ozekhome and F. R. Onoja (SAN), for Useni, applied for bail on behalf the defendants.
Ruling, Justice Chizoba Oji granted each of them bail at N10m with a surety each that must have a property in the FCT.
Justice Oji ordered them to deposit their international passports with the court.
She noted that since the proceedings took place on Friday, the defendants can go to their houses should they be unable to meet the bail conditions, but must return on Monday to do so, failing which they would be sent to prison.
Recall that AGF on Monday withdrew a three count charge filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission,ICPC, against Ozekhome.
He on Wednesday filed a fresh 12 count charge before the High Court of Federal Capital Territory Abuja on same alleged forgery cases .
